“Valença Flor de Maio” revives the traditional Mayan festival, between the 1st and 7th of May, with a floral exhibition in the Municipal Garden, decoration of the entrance doors to the Fortress, squares, shops, and institutions, and the Flower Power Festival.
For seven days, 57 Valencian groups will embody this initiative, from parish councils, IPSSs, cultural, recreational, and sports associations, and catechetical groups, along with the expected participation of commercial establishments.
The opening of the initiative will take place on Monday, May 1st, at 5 pm, with a concert by the Valencian group “Fados&Tal”, in the Municipal Garden.

The Municipal Garden will be the stage for the parishes and institutions of the county to show art, tradition, and know-how to keep alive the tradition of the Mayas.
All parishes in the municipality will participate with their floral arrangements in an exhibition that will cover the entire fence of the Municipal Garden on Avenida de Espanha and Avenida Tito Fontes. The main entrance door in the garden, facing Avenida Tito Fontes, will be in charge of the Corpo Nacional de Escutas de Valença, and the door facing Avenida de Espanha in charge of the group Valença Arte nas Mãos.
The decoration of the Municipal Bandstand will be in charge of APPACDM Valença and the School of Music of São Pedro da Torre.
The Portas do Sol, Coroada, Meio, and Revelim da Coroada will be decorated by seven IPSSs in the municipality with floral artistic interventions. The City Council will make broom available to all interested parties from Friday, April 28th at the following locations:
• Largo dos Inválidos (Rua da Oliveira, behind the residential Portas do Sol);
• Revelim at Portas do Sol;
• Back of the Military Chapel of Bom Jesus;
• Railway station;
• Field of the fair (cidade nova).
Festa Flower Power
The Flower Power Party is scheduled for the Municipal Garden, on the night of Saturday, May 6th, with the presence of the city’s bars. Lots of music and naturally lots of entertainment promise a memorable night for young Valencians and those who visit us. Cromos da Noite, Paulo Baixinho, and Pedro Lima will be in charge of brightening up this Flower Power Party.
