12 years of “Deixem o Pimba em Paz” celebrated at Maria Matos
with Bruno Nogueira, Manuela Azevedo, Filipe Melo, Nuno Rafael and Nelson Cascais
In 2025, the 12th anniversary of “Deixem o Pimba em Paz” was marked. The Teatro Maria Matos, in Lisbon, celebrates it with 12 exclusive concerts, between June and July, with 12 guests.
Opened in 2013, “Deixem o Pimba em Paz” conquered the public with an irreverent reinterpretation of the pimba repertoire, having travelled to Portugal from North to South, islands included, and crossing borders to the United States of America and Brazil. With hundreds of presentations since the premiere, the success of “Deixem o Pimba em Paz” is a true phenomenon of popularity that has captured the public of several generations for 12 years.
This year, the show returns to Lisbon at a celebration that takes place between 24 June and 16 July.
“It is no accident that at a party on Quinta do Lago, at the first chords of a Quim Barreiros song, there will be a stampede of burrows running to the dance floor and singing the chorus in a cheerful and loud voice. The same will happen if, in the middle of a barbecue in Massamá, someone risks the same music. The Berloks will perhaps be less, but the joyful and loud voice that sings the chorus will have the same strength. There is another thing that narrows the Quinta do Lago-Massama axis: none of the inhabitants of these social regions know much more than the chorus. And it’s also a shame because the best rarely comes in the chorus. Yet few subjects connect so intimately with people with such distinct tastes. I’ve always been fascinated by the universe. All in all, with his lyrics, music, clothes, choreographies, etc… This show proposes to give these songs another life, joining musicians who made jazz and pop arrangements where they were unlikely. Thus, Manuela Azevedo (vocalist of the Clan) appears, together to give voice to these themes. And we join the songs of Quim Barreiros, Ágata, Marante and Marco Paulo, among others. It’s a concert and a deconstruction show. And it’s not enough. “
