2019 edition of Anozero started

A week with inaugurations, visits and workshops

The 2019 edition of Anozero, entitled “The Third Margin”, curated by Agnaldo Farias and assistant curator of Lígia Afonso and Nuno de Brito Rocha, is based on three pillars: exhibition, activation program and book. The exhibition features work by 39 artists and occupy different places in the city, strongly activating its architectural and intangible heritage, partially qualified by UNESCO. In addition to the occupation of the unique Santa Clara-a-Nova Convent, the biennial also spans the streets of the city center (Chiado Building, City Hall and Galerias Avenida), the buildings of the University of Coimbra (Colégio das Artes and Museu da Science – Chimico Laboratory and Natural History Gallery) and the spaces of the Coimbra Circle of Plastic Arts (CAPC Headquarters and Mermaid).

ShipShape
Around visual, concrete and experimental poetry, the exhibition «ShipShape», curated by Tomás Cunha Ferreira, hosts a set of activities such as the reading-performance «Ato Poético», with the participation of Adriana Calcanhoto, Domenico Lancellotti and Tomás Cunha Ferreira, which will take place on November 13, Wednesday, at 9 pm, in the CAPC Mermaid Auditorium. Always in the field of contemporary poetry, Tomás Cunha Ferreira has other proposals in this exhibition: several workshops and a lecture.

Other proposals
At the Santa Clara-a Nova Convent, as part of the exhibition of the curatorship of “The Third Margin”, weekly performances are held on Saturday, by two of the participating artists: Daniel V. Melim (11 am) and Luís Filipe Ortega (16 pm). ). And registration is open for two workshops for children between 6 and 14, with artist Maria Condado: «Imaginary Landscapes», on November 27 and December 8, is a workshop that will refer to the ancient palatial frescoes, with the artist proposing a moment of drawing and painting around the theme of the imaginary landscape. Participants will have the opportunity to draw and create their own landscape through pictorial experimentation. Registration is open. Activation Program
Developed by the students of the Master in Curatorial Studies of the College of Arts, in collaboration with CAPC Sphere, the Activation Program aims to engage in dialogues and meetings between the biennial and the city, its residents, different local communities, the university and schools.
Throughout the biennial, there are guided tours by the curators, mediated visits and path-visits. Visits can be scheduled for groups of 5 to 20 members.
What’s more, there are workshops, readings and debates, free of charge, but mandatory registration, up to two days before the date of its realization (to sphere@capc.com.pt or +351 962 235 969).
For this week, entries are still open for ‘Manifesto’, a workshop with Camilo Soldado (journalist) and Joana Monteiro (graphic designer), which should reflect participants’ common concerns about the borders of Europe and the free movement of people who seek asylum. It takes place on November 17 (3 pm – 5:30 pm) and November 20 (3 pm – 5:30 pm).

Convergent Programming
The Anozero Convergent Programming is an eclectic and multiple sets of activities that aim to broaden the fields of action through art and thinking about it, allowing the decentralization of the conceptual and geographic space defined by the curator.
In different places of the city, there are exhibitions to see: in the Machado de Castro National Museum and in Galeria Sete there is “Escape / The assumption of blue” by Pedro Pascoinho; Gallery V, downtown, features Gil Ferrão’s “Unsitted movement”; At the Museum, at João das Rules Avenue, the West Coast collective proposes «Navigating the Bank, Walking the Bed», and at Santa Clara-a-Nova Convent, there are specific proposals for architectural programming: «The Grand Theater of the Munda »,« Finite Existence »,« Coimbrismo ». It is in the Convent that you can also visit the “Hortus Conclusus” and the “Terreiro”.

And take note: for the week, begin the initiatives in the area of architecture, a CITAC debut and a project by Leonor Keil is presented at the Exploratory – Living Science Center of Coimbra.
