2022 World Championship with 32 teams

FIFA confirmed that the competition will maintain the 32 teams and not 48 teams.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino had already said that the 2022 World Cup could have 48 teams. But this Wednesday, the organization confirmed that the Qatar World Cup will keep the 32 teams.

The FIFA statement states, “A joint analysis concluded that, because of the advanced phase of preparations and the need for a detailed assessment of the potential logistical impact in the host country, more time would be needed to make a final decision. So it has been decided not to proceed with this option. “

The 2022 World Championship will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
