On Saturday the 13th of January, the fiftieth anniversary of Cape Verde’s Independence was celebrated at UCCLA in Lisbon, celebrating the Democracy and Freedom of this sister country, in the year in which Portugal also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.
In a world where Democracy and Freedom increasingly have to be defended, the fiftieth anniversary of Cape Verde’s Independence was celebrated, UCCLA hosted this party with a packed room in which many who had to watch stood up.
The celebrations were presented by Kathy Moeda and were attended by Dr. Vitor Ramalho, Secretary General of UCCLA, Dr. Eurico Correia Monteiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cape Verde in the Republic of Portugal and the Minister of Communities, Eng. Jorge Santos, in addition to representatives from other embassies in Portugal, deputies and councillors.
After the usual speeches, the celebrations included three performances, three different styles that show the richness of Cape Verdean music that dazzles and captivates us with every chord, first the extraordinary Nancy Vieira took to the stage, joined by Vaiss on guitar, then, was the turn of the new generation with the sisters Yeri & Yeni accompanied by Djodje Almeida on guitar, the celebrations ended with Scúru Fichadu.
