The 25th edition of SeixalJazz starts on October 10

The 25th edition of SeixalJazz will begin on October 10 and will run until October 19 at the Municipal Auditorium of the Cultural Forum of Seixal. Concurrently, at SeixalJazz Club, located in the Sociedade Filarmónica Democrática Timbre Seixalense, fans can attend, free of charge, some of the best jazz being made in Portugal.

Tickets for the 25th edition of SeixalJazz are already on sale, which will take place from October 10 to 19 at the Municipal Auditorium of the Cultural Forum of Seixal (always starting at 10 PM) and at SeixalJazz Club (starting at 11 PM), with two sessions scheduled at the Sociedade Filarmónica Democrática Timbre Seixalense. The programming continues the thematic line that has been occurring in recent years, being essentially eclectic as it presents different artistic approaches to the vast universe of jazz, not only with the presence of projects from the United States of America but also from European countries, including Portugal.

Paulo Silva, president of the Municipal Chamber of Seixal, states that “currently, this event is an unavoidable reference in the national landscape of festivals and meetings in this area of music, presenting a high standard of quality that has already attracted its audience and is now seeking to not only maintain it but also attract appreciators from other musical areas. This is an initiative that is a national and international reference, constituting one of the most visible faces of the intense cultural activity developed by this municipality. I also highlight the fact that the public can attend the shows presented at SeixalJazz Club for free.”

Regarding this year’s programming, two projects will be presented, featuring some of the most relevant musicians today: on one hand, pianist Vijay Iyer, and the other, Kurt Rosenwinkel, who will bring the project THE NEXT STEP, considered by many as significant in the history of jazz. With them, well-recognized musicians will be coming to Seixal, such as bassist Linda May Han Oh, bassist Ben Street, and drummer Jeff Ballard, all of whom have solid careers made with their projects and collaborations with other musicians. Closing the festival, similar to previous years, will be a young, talented musician and composer, considered one of the musicians who will define the future of jazz, vibraphonist Joel Ross.

As for the participation of Portuguese musicians, on the stage of the Municipal Auditorium, the audience will get to know a new group from the national jazz scene, the Foca, which brings together several renowned musicians from different generations, each contributing various approaches and sounds. Two projects stand out reflecting the vitality of national jazz, its expression in European jazz, and the international recognition of Portuguese musicians: the first features one of the most internationally renowned Portuguese musicians today, saxophonist Rodrigo Amado, in the performance The Attic & Eve Risser, alongside Eve Risser (piano), Gonçalo Almeida (double bass), and Onno Govaert (drums); the second is the project Trespass Trio, resulting from the collaboration between Norwegian and Swedish musicians featuring Portuguese trumpeter Susana Santos Silva.

The programming also includes SeixalJazz Club, a space that recreates a jazz club atmosphere, focused on presenting national groups and projects based on improvisation and free jazz. The programming is complementary to that presented in the auditorium, aiming to reach a broader audience while simultaneously promoting the work of Portuguese musicians, with particular emphasis on emerging projects.
