Registration is now open for another edition of the “End of Europe” Race, a sporting event organized by the Municipality of Sintra that will take place on January 30, 2022, with a scheduled start for the Volta do Duche, in Sintra.
This competition, which is now in its 31st edition, will tour the Serra and Vila de Sintra – UNESCO World Heritage, one of the most emblematic and enchanting landscapes in Portugal which for over 30 years has hosted thousands of athletes in the month of January that, year after year, come together to challenge the mysticism of the Serra de Sintra, surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
The unique characteristics of this race, conferred by a set of unique factors, such as the climate (due to the harshest weather conditions that are felt in Sintra in January), the route layout, the toughness of the race, the uniqueness of the natural and heritage wealth found here, ranks it among the top 10 in the book World’s Ultimate Running Races, by Harper Colling Publishers, which highlights the 500 most iconic races of its kind worldwide.
With departure scheduled for 10:00 am in Vila de Sintra, next to Fonte Mourisca, the route will pass by the Largo Rainha Dona Amélia and will follow the Rampa da Penha, Forest Zone of Peninha, winding through the Sintra Mountains.
The last part of the race is set against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, which will also serve as an amphitheatre for the Goal of the race, which will be placed right on top of the cliffs and next to the Cabo da Roca Lighthouse, known worldwide for being the westernmost point of the European continent.
Participation is limited to 3000 athletes and requires prior registration Link
