50 years ago Brazil won the World Cup for the third time
Few times in the history of world football have so many stars gathered in one team. Carlos Alberto Torres, Clodoaldo, Gérson, Tostão, Rivellino, Jairzinho and Pelé.
Spectacular players who were led by another emblematic figure of world football, Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo, the only four-time world champion, who played several roles during his career in the most popular of sports.
In six games in the Mexico Cup, the team won all six matches, scored 19 goals and conceded just seven. In addition to the collective achievement, the Brazilian stars also wrote other chapters in the history of the World Cups.
With seven goals, Jairzinho ended the World Championship as the vice-top scorer and became the first champion to score in all six games of the competition.
Pelé scored again in a World Cup final and became the only three-time world champion in history. The King also ended the competition with six assists, a record of passes for the goal, in the same edition of the World Cup, which remains until today.
In Group 3, Brazil faced Czechoslovakia, England and Romania in the first phase. The debut was against the Czechs, winning 4-1.
The match against the English was won by 1-0. Against the Romanians, they won 3-2. In the knockout, Brazil won against Peru (4-2) and Uruguay (3-1).
The team defeated Italy 4-1 and won the FIFA World Cup for the third time in 1970. The goals of the match were scored by Pelé, Gérson, Jairzinho and Carlos Alberto Torres. Boninsegna scored the Italians’ goal of honor at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
