8th Summer Choirs Festival

No CCB

Welcome to the 8th edition of the Choirs Summer Festival.

Continuing its successful collaboration with EGEAC and Sourcewerkz Pte Ltd, the festival, included in the Lisbon Festivities 2019, continues its consolidation process in the Portuguese choral scene.
This year we will have choirs coming from Slovenia, Spain, Ireland, Croatia, and Germany, in addition to the participation of the national choirs.
Continuing the success of the Choir of the Summer Choirs Festival, for the opening concert at the CCB, we reserve the one that will be the biggest choral event of the year with the debut of LINHAGEM, by Eurico Carrapatoso, in a concert commemorating the 500 years of the voyage of circum-navigation of Fernão de Magalhães.
The remaining concerts will take place in the usual places: Centro Cultural de Belém (Large Auditorium and Pedestrian Walk), in the Cloisters of the Jeronimos Monastery, in the Museum of the Navy and in the Vasco da Gama Garden.

On the 1st day (Friday) the Opening Concert will be held in the CCB’s Grand Auditorium.

On the 2nd day (Saturday) the competition will take place, also at the CCB’s Grand Auditorium.

The 3rd day (Sunday) will be, as always, exclusively dedicated to the participating choirs with 4 concerts spread around the Belém area, namely the CCB Pedestrian Walk, the Vasco da Gama Garden, the Marina Museum (Galeotas Pavilion) and the Cloisters of the Jeronimos Monastery.

On the 4th day and the last day we returned to the CCB’s Grand Auditorium for the awarding of prizes and the Closing Concert with the participation of all the choirs participating in the festival.

The Coros de Verão Festival has as artistic director Paulo Lourenço, the jury of the competition being composed of an international panel of maestros: Ms Lim Ai Hooi (Singapore), Eugene Rogers (USA), Jonathan Velasco (Philippines), Pedro Teixeira (Portugal) and, keeping the tradition of bringing a newcomer, we are pleased to introduce you to Elisenda Carrasco (Spain).

A world premiere of the work LINHAGEM, commemorating the fifth centenary of the first circumnavigation voyage led by Fernão de Magalhães (n. Sabrosa, 1480 – Cebu, Philippines, April 27, 1521) and finished, already in the known sea – sea Portuguese Indian – by the Basque Juan Sebastián Elcano (1476-1526).
The Linhagem tries to draw a main line, through the clinical eye of Fernando Pessoa and the great Portuguese identity lighthouse that he managed to achieve in his Message.
It also uses texts by D. Dinis (1261-1325), Joam Zorro, António Machado and Camilo Pessanha.
Brief words of Eurico Carrapatoso about the creation of this work:
“I tried to fly this ship with my glosses that are dedicated to Ana Proença and Paulo Lourenco, the fools who trusted in me. Am I a clumsy helmsman? Very likely. But he wanted to be. Camoos would come out of this soft talk in a gallant way, with his repackaging panache: “If they are good, it is a motto of V.M .; if they are evil, they are my words. ”

Texts by: Fernando Pessoa, D. Dinis, Camilo Pessanha, António Machado and Joam Zorro.
