On the 26th and 27th of May, the Urban Park of Seixal will be the stage, again, of the Festival of May with two nights of shows, with free admission, which aim to promote artistic proposals that have as a central element of their speech the intervention.
From politics to social criticism, passing through environmental activism and struggles against race and gender discrimination. Peaches (Canada), Moullinex (Portugal), Prétu (Portugal), Gabriel, o Pensador (Brazil), and Sam The Kid with Orelha Negra and Orquestra (Portugal) make up the festival. Admission is free, thus allowing everyone access to culture. Admission is subject to venue capacity.
At a time when we are witnessing the advance of populism and authoritarian drift all over the world, and when the order of the day is to misinform, it becomes urgent to intervene, inform and awaken consciences. And the arts, especially music, play a fundamental role in enlightening and mobilizing citizens and in the pursuit of ideals that lead us to more evolved and fairer societies.
«The City Council of Seixal, in its intervention, aims to continue a legacy of resistance and fight for better living conditions, for freedom and democracy that is an identity mark of the people who built the history of the county», refers the mayor of Seixal, Paulo Silva.
As in previous editions, video poems will be produced that will punctuate the spaces between performances, in which artists from different areas are invited to interpret striking poems of an interventional nature. Among them are Bia Ferreira, Luca Argel, Ana Deus, Cátia Oliveira (A Garota Não), José Luís Peixoto and Catarina Wallenstein.
Festival do Maio is an initiative of the Municipality of Seixal, with artistic direction by Luís Varatojo.
