Companhia do Chapitô is preparing to take its new collective creation to the stage, the 40th in its repertoire, which will be on stage from January 11th to February 11th, 2024.
What if everyone refused to go to war?
“The Ants” (“As Formigas”) weaves the portrait of soldiers, “poor devils” combatants in the middle of a conflict zone, where, in a delicate, “innocent” narrative, the war scenario questions the essence of their humanity. As Gandhi vehemently proclaimed, “War is the greatest torment that afflicts humanity; It is the mother of all miseries.”
While, amid chaos and madness, they persist in the search for fragile normality amid brutal clashes, these warriors witness the mud, the omnipresent death, the all-consuming devastation and the despair that permeates the battlefield. They are compelled to question, as whispered by martial absurdity, “the meaning of their existence in a world at the mercy of warrior irrationality.”
“The Ants” emerges as a cry of repudiation of war and dehumanization, as a harrowing reminder of human fragility in the face of the brutality of the battlefield.
On stage from January 11th to February 11th at Chapitô, from Thursday to Saturday at 9 pm and Sunday at 5 pm.
