Cor do Som is invited to participate once again in the Jardins do Marquês festival, bringing as a special guest the tenor João Mendonça, on July 10, on the same night as Djavan’s presentation.

On the 19th, the group is an attraction on the main stage, in Ribeirinho Park, the MIMO Amarante Festival, bringing as a guest Carminho, the great voice of fado, betting on strengthening and updating the ties between Portuguese and Brazilian music. Admission is free to the MIMO Festival Amarante.

Still within the MIMO Festival Amarante the guitarist and mandolin player of the band, Armandinho Macêdo, who has just received two awards in the Instrumental category, as soloist and disc, in the important Brazilian Music Award, will make the workshop Guitarra baiana – tradition and modernity, in which he will share his vast knowledge about the Bahian guitar, on July 20, at 10 am, at the Cultural Center of Amarante.

And more: a meeting with the historical Brazilian group, for a conversation moderated by Ivan Lima at Fnac Chiado, at 6:30 pm, on July 8, revisits the trajectory of the band born in 1977.

With a schedule of concerts, conversations and workshops, the group, in its 2024 season in Europe, has brought news and successes that marked his career, because it is a rare case of a band that remains united to the present day and has become an obligatory reference of Brazilian music, especially after creating consecrated themes that marked generations and lead the tops of the radios, as “Menino Deus”, “Abri a Porta”, “Palco”, “Zanzibar”, “Beleza Pura”, “Semente do Amor”, “Pororocas”, “Saudação à Paz” and “Frutificar”.

Partnerships with Moraes Moreira and Fausto Nilo and compositions made especially for the A Cor do Som by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil guaranteed direct entries and the big door in radio and TV stations, culminating in sold-out shows throughout Brazil. The commemorative album of 40 years of career illustrates well the credentials of this supergroup and features the participation of artists Caetano Veloso, Daniela Mercury, Gilberto Gil, among others.

More about The Color of Sound
It was 1977 when the five boys of the newly formed group A Cor do Som surprised Brazil with their peculiar musical fusion, and the following year surprised the world when they debuted on stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July 1978.

“With its unusual and organic fusion of pop, choro, electric and progressive trio, A Cor do Som was the great surprise of Brazilian music in the late 1970s, anticipating the rock that would reign in the following decade. From the 21st century, the original sound of A Cor, which anticipated the mixture of rock with Brazilian rhythms, was again valued, cited as a reference by many of the artists “, comments Antônio Carlos Miguel (Brazilian journalist specialized in music), about the success of the band.

The award-winning group has 14 discs and a DVD edited and continues with their training intact over more than four decades of career. Both in recordings and their shows, A Cor do Som brings super special appearances of artists such as Caetano Veloso, Daniela Mercury, Moraes Moreira, Gilberto Gil, Roupa Nova, 14 Bis, Lulu Santos, Skank, Djavan, Paulinho Moska, Samuel Rosa and Flávio Venturini.

In addition to the Latin Grammy for the “Pink Album”, A Cor do Som collects other trophies such as the Sharp Awards, for the album “A Cor do Som Ao Vivo no Circo” and the Tim Music Award for the work “A Cor do Som Acústico”. Reaping the fruits of this successful career, in 2023 premiered the documentary series O Som da Cor – The Story and adventures of A Cor do Som, which recalls the trajectory of the group from the process of musical formation of its members in the 60s to the present-day.
