Back in Lisbon, the British Yard Act filled the LAV with their post-punk, energy and some madness, as expected and desired, for a fantastic night.
Yard Act is a rock band from Leeds, West Yorkshire, founded in 2019 by vocalist James Smith (vocals, lyrics) and Ryan Needham (bass), joined by Sam Shipstone (guitar) and Jay Russell (drums).
The debut EP Dark Days was released in 2021, followed by the album, The Overload, released on January 21, 2022, which debuted in second place on the UK Albums Chart. That same year, the band released a special version of the song “100‰ Edurance” which featured the collaboration of the mythical singer Elton John.
Yard Act’s music is post-punk and indie rock, often incorporating elements of 1970s Italo disco, 1990s hip-hop and early 2000s indie rock. , addressing themes such as capitalism, gentrification and social class with a touch of “dark humour and cynical narrative”.
The band’s second album, Where’s My Utopia?, was released on March 1, 2024, its lyrics and unique mix of genres attracted attention from the public and critics, combined with their energy and madness on stage, making them a serious case of British and European music.
The LAV concert began with “An Illusion”, “Dead Horse” and “When the Laughter Stops”, which included James fainting on stage, with one of the choir singers “beating him up on stage”, playing of course, without the music ever stopping, to the amusement of the fans.
But other songs passed through the stage and of course “Payday”, “The Overload” and “Vineyard” were not missing, ending a concert that fans applauded from start to finish.

Murkage Dave opened the stage
The first part was performed by Murkage Dave, who came on stage from his tape, something that is no longer seen, but that a generation, to which I belong, still remembers well.
Murkage Dave, aka David Lewis, is a singer-songwriter from Leytonstone, East London, his music combines influences from British garage, R&B and indie pop, resulting in a unique and distinctly British sound.
Dave started making music whilst at university in Manchester, one of his early tracks, “Hands On Her”, was remixed by Sunship and is included on a DJ EZ compilation.
He formed the Murkage Cartel, a collective of DJs, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, designers and bloggers. In London in 2016, Dave formed the duo HALFBROTHER with producer and singer SCALLY.
D.A.V.E, his debut EP features the track “Car Bomb”, produced by SCALLY. Dave has also collaborated with The Streets frontman Mike Skinner. His debut album, Murkage Dave Changed My Life, released in late 2018, features production from Skepta and Star Slinger, as well as guest appearances from Manga Saint Hilare and Jaykae.
The album received critical praise for its unique sound and vulnerability, Felicity Martin of Dummy Mag described it as “a sparse, introspective vibe that feels distinctly British”. Dave’s narrative and lyrics create a strong connection with his fans, who at LAV supported him from start to finish, even winning over many of those who were there to see Yard Act.
