The Olga Roriz Company celebrates 30 years and re-creates the show The Hour When We Knew Nothing About Each Other, by Peter Handke, directed by Olga Roriz, with a cast of 32 performers, who are and have been part of the Company throughout this journey.
«The Time We Knew Nothing About Each Other (1992) is a play originally composed of 450 characters, walking in a square represented as a city. Your goal would be to create a day in the life of a square following a set of stage directions. The size of this production requires a large cast, made up of seven dancers and people from the community, renewed in each performance location. In this Handke square, there is the recurrence of a square norm that seems to no longer exist. We witness the passing of time without time, stories without stories, characters without verbal discourse, with an undefined past and future. It is a timeless piece in its translation of humanity onto the stage because it is open to the here and now of whoever brings it to the stage. Writing is itself choreographic in both form and content. Composed of stage directions, profile indications and actions of each participant, it offers great creative freedom. We are interested in asking, 33 years after the creation of this piece, what has changed in the world. It seems to us that this title wants to tell us much more now. That what we know about each other and ourselves is an increasingly dark well and that it is urgent to open channels for transformation, for the creation of utopia.» – Olga Roriz
