For the show celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, we did not want to witness and celebrate, serene and rested our past. We decided to build something that reveals the fragility of democracy, showing the new concerns, the new revolutions, the new actors of these changes, against the new threats and others, which, because they seem old, we believe do not reach us. Something that stimulates and motivates us to continue fighting for freedom. Something that finds parallels in the past, but that gives us a push to think about a more democratic, fairer, more humanist future. Something that is not distant from us, but that creates a present emotion, that makes us feel alert. May it show us an unknown territory worth fighting for.
We are interested in the idea of bringing together a collective of artists who feel comfortable as active witnesses of their time, using musical and poetic language that has to do with the present. A song that naturally reflects the way we express our feelings today, not with a pessimistic attitude, but that makes us reflect and create autonomy of thought to continue building freedom and correcting the defects of democracy because, as Sérgio Godinho sings, «democracy is the worst of all systems, except all the others».
A show that is truly a trigger, a weapon, that sings of anger and joy, that points to our conscience because, as José Mário Branco says, «despondency, mysticism and illusions… never made revolutions».
