The wonderful Ute Lemper returned to Lisbon

The German singer, actress and dancer, Ute Lemper, was at the CCB yesterday to celebrate with the public her wonderful 40 years of career, where she took us on a commented journey through her journey in music and theatre.

The concert at the CCB was a fantastic journey through time, Ute, you reviewed her impressive repertoire, from the wild Weimar Berlin with Weill and Brecht, Eisler to the Berlin Kabarett, or even the songs sung secretly in the ghettos of Berlin.

Lemper also presented the compositions with the impressive words of Neruda and Coelho, Bukowski, and even her poetry, and of course, as she says, she has a special predilection for French Chanson, it is a special moment to hear Ute sing Léo Ferré’s poems and Jacques Brel.

She soon became a diva and at the age of 24 she was already compared to Marlene Dietrich, Ute remembers, that Marlene was a Hollywood Diva, a Cabaret star, an expatriate, who had fought the German Nazis in the Second World War, received the Legion of Honor from France, Medal of Freedom from the USA and even a medal from Israel, a progressive woman ahead of her time, how could the newspapers compare them?, and during the concert she said that she sent a letter to Diva, who at the time was already living in seclusion in his home, thinking he wouldn’t receive an answer, but 1 month later, he received a phone call, which he recreated in the CCB show.

Ute Lemper, German singer, actress and dancer born in Münster on July 4, 1963, is known for her powerful and versatile voice, which only yesterday amazed the CCB audience, covers a wide range of musical styles, including chanson, jazz, pop and classical music.

Lemper began her career as an actress in theatre, appearing in productions of musicals such as “Cats” and “Bye Bye Birdie“. In 1986, she released her first studio album, Ute Lemper singt Kurt Weill, which was an instant critical and commercial success. The album was a tribute to German composer Kurt Weill, and included interpretations of classics such as “Mack the Knife” and “The Song of Songs”.

Ute continued to release successful albums in the following years, recording versions of songs by composers such as Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Leonard Cohen and Kurt Cobain, to which he also added jazz and classical music albums.

Lemper also worked in cinema and television, participating in films such as “The Threepenny Opera” (1989), “The Scarlet Letter” (1995) and “The Dancer Upstairs” (2002) or highly successful series such as “The Sopranos” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit“.

Versatile and innovative whether in music, theatre, cinema or television, she is undoubtedly one of the most important artists in Germany and one of the most talented singers in the world.
