“A Peça que Dá Para o Torto” returns in 2025
Without scenery and without cast… until the moment… the play will go wrong, of course, and everyone can watch the chaos that will be on stage in Lisbon and Porto.
After successive interruptions between 2020 and 2022, due to the pandemic, “A Peça que Dá Para o Torto” is back to challenge the unprecedented events and proposes to present the adapted version of the British success already next year in Lisbon and Porto: April 8 to 13 at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre and June 5 to 7 at the Porto Ageas Coliseum.
“A Peça que Dá Para o Torto” has been on the scene for 10 disastrous years in the West End of London, and it is the comedy that’s been on stage the longest. Professional actors stage a company of amateur artists who are preparing to present a mystery play, but who have everything to go wrong. Very bad.
The original version, by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shield, returns to Portugal and has a translation by Nuno Markl and a resident staging by Frederico Corado. The cast, to announce, promises to rip the deepest laughs of the audience with a fun comedy that is both surreal and hilarious.
The plot revolves around the Nucleus of Theatre of the Cultural and Recreational Society of Sobralinho, which is preparing for the grand premiere of a play that takes the public back to 1920 and the investigation of a murder with mysterious contours. But of course, the search for the culprit will go wrong and there is real scenic chaos: the actors forget the lines; they change the order of the scenes; the costumes disappear… What seemed easy becomes a chain of misadventures, hilarious misfortunes and surprising sequences that make this piece a truly international success.
“A Peça que Dá Para o Torto” premiered in the West End in 2014 and reached Broadway in 2017. One year later he received the Olivier Award in the category of Best Comedy in 2015 and since then has won successive awards and has conquered international critics.
