Last Friday, December 8th, Bica-San hosted its first dinner with wine producers.
In a partnership with “Terroir Vinhos de Identidade”, several Lamoresca wines will be presented during dinner, a project by Filippo Rizzo based in Sicily, in the city of San Michel di Ganzaria, a small village in the heart of the island’s interior. +Info
A dry, somewhat arid area, located between rolling hills and agricultural land. The five hectares of vineyards cultivated organically and biologically benefit from a drastic drop in temperature between day and night. Filippo Rizzo works diligently to produce healthy and good fruit, which results in the wines that will be tasted this week.
Like many of Sicily’s great wine producers, Fillipo’s wines have a strange way of telling us where they come from. They silently explode with Mediterranean sunshine, concentrated fruit, dried herbs and spices and the unmistakable language of the Sicilian countryside.
To accompany you on this opening night at Bica-San, a celebration at the table, Chef Bruno Antunes presented some of the dishes from Bica-San’s usual menu, as well as some surprises designed specifically for the first wine dinner.
It was not a “classic” and formal pairing dinner, but a more relaxed affair, with a choice of à la carte dishes, accompanied by wines (by the glass) from the most recent Lamoresca harvest, and, who knows, some surprise bottles brought by Simon, Filippo’s son, who took over the wine (and olive oil!) production of this family project and who will be available to share the story behind each wine.
“Our objective is to defend small producers, artisans and wine growers. People who cultivate healthy vineyards and with healthy agricultural practices. Producers and winemakers who care about the land they work and the wine they produce”, shares Samuel Garas, Wine Director of the Independente group.
