Travel startup Bounce chooses Lisbon as the destination for its new headquarters
The company, which has Andreessen Horowitz as an investor, says goodbye to San Francisco and is relocating its team to Lisbon, something that is part of its expansion plans for Europe.
It has just opened its new office in São Bento, which already has a team of 25 employees.
By the end of the year, it intends to recruit another 15 employees in Portugal.
Bounce, a travel tech startup that offers a luggage storage service to tourists in cities around the world, announces the move of its headquarters to Lisbon and the official launch of a new office in São Bento with a capacity for 50 people. The company has a team of 55 employees, 25 of whom work in Lisbon, and intends to recruit another 15 employees in Portugal by the end of the year for the areas of Engineering, Growth, Data, Product, Design, and Sales.
“Portugal was the right choice for us as the new home of Bounce for several reasons,” says Cody Candee, Founder, and CEO of Bounce. “First, because Lisbon is becoming Europe’s next tech hub. The highly qualified talent that is formed in the country, as well as the huge volume of talented professionals who are moving here and the Government’s incentives to invest in startups and in the technology sector, are factors that contribute strongly. Second, because it is a country where tourism is booming and we want to accompany and contribute to this growth in the sector. And thirdly, because we are growing and we are looking to increase our company with qualified people that we know Portugal has to offer,” he continues.
Bounce is committed to giving travelers the freedom to embark on unique experiences and adventures while traveling, freeing themselves from the burden of their luggage. Convenient, simple, and fast – it’s an ideal service for backpackers, traveling to an event (such as a festival or conference), for business trips, quick 24h trips, and family travel. Just go to the website, look for the nearest location, and leave your bags safely. The company offers storage options in more than 1,500 cities, with a total of 9,000 stores, of which 250 are in Portugal.
“Lisbon is one of the main tourist destinations and therefore we felt that it was the right city for us to be present through our services and with the new office. A traveler passing through Lisbon and checking into an Airbnb or simply wanting to enjoy their last few hours in the city or on the beaches without their bags – this is our typical customer and the city is full of people like that,” adds Cody.
From its new headquarters, Bounce will invest heavily in its expansion and aims to reach all the main travel destinations in the world in the next 12 months.
The startup was born in San Francisco in 2019 and was founded by Cody Candee. To date, it has raised around €13M and has investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, and Seabed VC.
