The rules of the prize are available on the website of Câmara de Viana do Castelo, one of the promoters of the prize, with Porto Editora (PE), for which Luís Miguel Rocha (1976-2015) published his latest titles.
The prize aims to award an unprecedented work of literary fiction, in the area of the novel, which has not been awarded in another contest. The author of the winning work will be awarded a pecuniary prize in the amount of 6,000 euros and the publication of the novel by Porto Editora.
This award was created to perpetuate the work of the writer who lived most of his life in the municipality [of Viana do Castelo], and with the purpose of stimulating the production of original works by Portuguese-speaking writers.
The winner of the first edition of the award, last year, was the book “Crónica Menor de Robim da Flândria”, by Mário Silva Carvalho, whose publication is scheduled for this year.
