The 2026 Lisbon Grande Marcha competition is now open!

Registration is officially open for the “Grande Marcha 2026,” a competition to select the main song for the Popular Marches of the upcoming Lisbon Festivities.

This year, the Grande Marcha celebrates the 40th anniversary of Portugal’s entry into the then EEC, adopting the theme “We are Lisbon. We are Europe,” announced by the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, at the awards ceremony for the Popular Marches participating last year, which took place on the 7th in the Noble Hall of the City Hall.

The appreciation of the music, lyrics, and overall quality by a jury composed of recognised personalities from the cultural and musical fields will determine the winning composition, which will award the author(s) with a prize of €5,500 (five thousand five hundred euros).

The Grande Marcha of Lisbon is a joint initiative of the Lisbon City Council and EGEAC-Lisboa Cultura that annually selects an original composition (music and lyrics) that best characterises, both literarily and musically, the city of Lisbon.

Individually or collectively, the competition is open to all individuals, and originality is a mandatory requirement for the competing composition, whose lyrics must be written in Portuguese, and the music cannot exceed four minutes.

Proposals should be sent anonymously by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt to the EGEAC headquarters by February 23rd.

The competition’s participation conditions, published in the Municipal Bulletin, are available at egeac.pt
