Afonso Rodrigues debuts solo and in Portuguese

Afonso Rodrigues, known for projects like Sean Riley & The Slowriders or Keep Razors Sharp, is now preparing his solo debut with the first songs written in Portuguese.

Afonso Rodrigues’s solo project emerges as a continuation and evolution in the artistic life of the musician who, until then, always played and composed in groups that wrote and sang in English. This new step comes after a trip to Africa in 2022, where everything began to take shape, with some texts and songs that had begun to appear at the time of the pandemic.

These texts and poems began to materialize in songs, this time written in Portuguese, in a classical singer-songwriter’s record, but with a contemporary and fresh sound.

The first single, “Já Nem Sei”, from Afonso Rodrigues’ solo project, arrives at the end of this month, on November 29. This will be the first breakthrough of their debut album which will arrive in 2025.

The news from now on will be more and more frequent and can be consulted through the social networks of the artist here.

About Afonso Rodrigues:

Afonso Rodrigues, best known for his role in Sean Riley & The Slowriders or Keep Razors Sharp, has always lived in music. First came to him by his father’s hand, who shared with him MPB and Jazz Fado records. Then he had high school bands, and was a Radialista – at the Radio University of Coimbra – DJ, Event Promoter and A&R in a multinational publishing house.

When he started writing “more serious” songs, for college ages, he chose English as his mother tongue. A little shy, and much influenced by the writers that he admired most at the time. Never knew how to explain it better.

The Portuguese always fell in love, and the guitar and the voice of the Zeca Afonso records that I heard with his father always called for him, but did not know how to do it. Time and vocation were lacking.
Never had he felt particularly Portuguese, or anywhere else, and the English had served the desire to speak to the world, but as time passed, with the birth of children in Lisbon burying their roots ever deeper in this land, The tongue finally came out and began to speak that which today feels as its truth.
