August has guaranteed animation at WOW with the first festival dedicated to Portugal, sunsets, a padel tournament, and even music events – from classical to samba – that have a scheduled passage through the Cultural Quarter. For September, a new edition of the Craft festival, dedicated to craft beer, has already been scheduled.
The usual activity brought to WOW by its seven museums and 12 restaurants will double in August. The Cultural Quarter of Vila Nova de Gaia has a reinforced program that includes, among many others, activities in one of the favorite spots for visitors: the Central Square, overlooking Porto and the Douro River.
Portugal WOWtentic: the celebration of what is national – August 10th to 15th
From music to gastronomy, passing through arts and crafts: from August 10th to 15th, WOW will celebrate the authentic country and the joy of being Portuguese. Each museum in the Cultural Quarter will have a prominent place on one of the days of the event, with tickets valid for the entire day and for all the programming that will take place inside, such as children’s activities, tastings, and music.
At the same time, the covered squares at WOW will also have entertainment: gastronomic events at Lemon Plaza, the art of know-how at the Street Market, and the most diverse cultural traditions at the Gallery.
At the weekend and at sunset: there are sunsets in the Central Square
Fridays and Saturdays (18:00 – 22:00) and Sundays (16:00 – 20:00)
During all weekends in August, Praça Central is also filled with rhythm, but with the sound of different DJs, who will accompany the late summer afternoons.
For those passing by to see the view, having dinner in one of the restaurants, or enjoying the new terrace of Bar da Praça, this will be a true meeting point in the Cultural Quarter.
From classical to samba: music invades the Cultural Quarter
From the 6th to the 8th of August, Porto Pianofest takes to WOW’s Sala Nasoni, located near the Pink Palace, recitals from the Artistic Residency Cycle, interpreted by young international pianists. On the 20th of August, on the esplanade and in the garden of the VP, the 16th edition of the Samba event in Porto arrives.
Padel scored points at WOW – from August 31 to September 3
Whoever looks at the WOW Central Square may not (yet) imagine that it is possible to play Padel there… but it will happen. The biggest tournament in the country dedicated to this modality will have a new field installed in the Cultural Quarter which, this year, gives it its name.
Here and in three other locations in Porto and Gaia, the WOW Padel Cup will receive 350 pairs of players, in a competition that is part of the official competition calendar of the Portuguese Padel Federation and is organized in partnership with Top-padel.
Craft: Returning craft beer festival – September 7th to 9th
Craft is no longer new to WOW… on the contrary! The festival has already brought dozens of brewers to Gaia, hundreds of references of Portuguese craft beer, and thousands of visitors, who can mark the dates of the new edition on their agenda: September 7th to 9th.
This time, the brewers will be installed outdoors, in Central Square. Close by, next to the garden of the VP restaurant, the festival will maintain an area with snacks.
