AIR confirmed at COOLJAZZ 2024

COOLJAZZ welcomes the French duo AIR for the first time, for a night of double celebration, on July 9, 2024, at Hipódromo Manuel Possolo.

The group celebrates 25 years of releasing its first album, Moon Safari (1998), in the year in which COOLJAZZ celebrates 20 years. Another premiere night, where the AIR play Moon Safari celebration takes the COOLJAZZ stage for a unique night.

The duo composed of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, is one of the biggest references in electronic music in the world, with a sensual and atmospheric composition that has won over the public since the 90s. The duo released their first album, Moon Safari, on 16 January 1998, which includes songs such as ‘Sexy Boy’, “All I Need”, “Kelly Watch The Stars”, and “La Femme D`Argent”, among others. The album, recorded in 3 months, went to the French studio (Around The Golf) but also to the iconic Abbey Road, in London.

The album elevated to a landmark in world electronic music contains influences from names as diverse as Serge Gainsbourg, Burt Bacharach or even the trip-hop that was so popular at the time. It was in publications linked to electronic music that the album received its first major praise, as in the case of Mixmag. Names like Pitchfork, The Face, Spin, Melody Maker, Mojo, Rolling Stone, and NME, among many other media around the world, followed, becoming one of the most unmissable albums in universal electronic music, with top charts being reached in territories such as Australia, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

After the tremendous success of their debut album, which now celebrates 25 years, AIR was invited to compose the soundtrack for “The Virgin Suicides” for Sofia Coppola’s debut film, as well as releasing an album with all the music in 2000. In the first decade of the new millennium, Dunckel and Godin released albums such as 10,000 Hz Legend (2001), Talkie Walkie (2004), Pocket Symphony (2007) and Love 2 (2009).

In 2012, they wrote their second score for “Le Voyage Dans La Lune”, by Georges Méliès. In 2014, the duo was invited by the French museum Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille to participate and sound in the ‘Open Museum’ exhibition. The album Music For Museum was released in vinyl format with 9 tracks, as a result of this work.

The night of July 9th will be a journey through the history of the iconic European duo who impacted the world through their music. COOLJAZZ guarantees another special premiere in the year in which it celebrates 20 years.
