“Liberdade Incondicional” is the debut album by Desconectados, the project led by Pedro Vidal, guitarist and musical director of Jorge Palma, studio and stage partner of the Wraygunn, guitarist, and companion on albums and tours for eight years by Blind Zero, as well as as a music producer for “Filhos do Rock“, an RTP series.
Pedro Vidal is accompanied by excellent musicians, Eurico Amorim on keys, Miguel Barros on bass, and Bruno Oliveira on drums.
The disc features 12 songs, which are the culmination of a path taken by Pedro Vidal, in search of his voice, his word, and his music. “Liberdade Incondicional” features three songs written by Carlos Tê, one of the greatest authors of Portuguese music, another with the collaboration of Manuel Cruz, who gave words to a song by Pedro Vidal with his lyrical genius, a duet with his master and friend Jorge Palma, “Frio de Verão”, and the participation of Mário Laginha, who also arranged the theme “Se eu fosse Deus”. The album was mastered by Mário Barreiros, another of the great talents in the history of Portuguese music. Distribution is by Sony Music.
Also noteworthy is the participation of the rhythmic sections composed by Pedro Santos (Clã) and Pedro Vasconcelos, Nuno Lucas (Bruno Pernadas, Jorge Palma), and João Correia (Tape Junk, Jorge Palma). The deluxe cast of the album also includes string arrangements by Filipe Melo, performed by the cellist Ana Cláudia Serrão’s quartet.
The inspiration for the name of the project “Desconectados” and according to Pedro Vidal, “arises because of the false connection that exists today, but mainly due to a book I read by Johann Hari, “Lost Connections”. to the simple things that we miss, to our connection to the planet itself, to the connection to people.”
“Liberdade Incondicional” travels between the electric energy of guitars and intense rhythms led by torn voices or just vocal melodies accompanied by a single piano. It is a record of songs embraced by the Portuguese language and transported by the energy of rock, whether in its most energetic aspect or in moments of pure contemplation. Pedro Vidal’s musical genius is mirrored in his record, featuring some of the best national talents.
