The disc’s breakthrough single will be known in a couple of weeks. With the seal of Warner Music Portugal, this is the first author LP with guests from the music producer of Noiz Estúdio.
At the controls of Noiz Estúdio, he has lent a sonic identity – of rare versatility – to the voices and melodies that are building the new Portuguese music scene in different amplitudes, from neo-soul to rap, from pop to r&b (Chullage, Wet Bed Gang, Dino d’Santiago, Virgul, Domingues, Murta, X-Tense NBC, Sir Scratch, Puro L, Soraia Tavares, Domi, and many others). But behold, the epiphany hit, made the music producer come forward and show the watermark of the “Tayob J sound.” in the long debut, already at cruising speed: “A Beleza do Erro”.
Those magic words, spoken while working with Amaura in one of the countless work sessions on the artist’s new LP, composed the concept in a flash, then like pieces of a puzzle that only existed in Tayob J.’s head. And the new “princess” of neo soul, which the producer greatly admires, was a natural choice at the time to star in the lead single “A Beleza do Erro”, entitled “O Meu para Semper”.
The direction of the verses and the initial arrangements did the rest and, in unison, walked in a single direction, to also call themselves the name “that the music seemed to ask for” to compose a trio: Héber Marques, from HMB. An “artist who had a huge impact” on Tayob J.’s career, as he confesses without stopping: “Starting with this project in the company of Amaura and Héber Marques transforms this professional moment into one of personal fulfillment”.
The sound and video clip for the album’s first theme will be known “in mid-April”, guarantees Tayob J. Warner Music Portugal label. The work will comprise “predictably a dozen themes”, with three moments that will act as an introduction and (two) interludes.
“A Beleza do Erro is my first album and I try to be as faithful as possible to my musical identity, which comes from rap and neo soul. There will be themes where these sounds will be evident, and others where they will be present in a more subtle way. On the LP, in some songs, I try to reconcile this universe with a more pop and comprehensive language and, also, with more conceptual moments and with a “more present sound design”, reveals Noiz Estúdio’s alma mater.
The son of a Brazilian mother of Polish descent and a Mozambican father of Indian origin, Tayob Juskow was born in the Portuguese capital but blends his imminently urban (world) experiences – which are not just Lisbon ones – into a direction and musical production aware of his multicultural DNA.
“The Brazilian music that my mother listened to feel a bit of ‘home’, or the Indian music that my father listened to on Sunday mornings, to go back to his origins, had a huge impact on the construction of my musical universe”, he reflects.
Incidentally, the very search for the motivations for the words and the concept that made this first album click is explained with unobtrusive humility. It’s just that Tayob J. sees himself as the “anomaly” of a merchant family that simply followed a very different path, to create the opportunities that allowed him to do “something beautiful and artistic” in life. With the uncertainties and unforeseen events typical of routes that incessantly open trails through a forest of attempts.
It was A Beleza do Erro, which, more than providing work in the productions of a wide variety of musicians, of different styles, now allowed the challenge to be extended to a dozen performers known to the general public. For, “through each take, we get to know the multiple perspectives on the concept”.
The honor of the premiere will go to Amaura and Héber Marques, who will reach our eyes and ears in a few days, through the single “O Meu para Semper”. Who will follow? We will find out in the coming months, on a journey of discovery that will last until the end of 2023. Unless I am mistaken…
