After “El Saif,” Summer Of Hate returns in Portuguese with “Alem.”
With this second single, the band brings everything back home, to the land of shoegaze, with a twist: an attempt to create a “classic Britpop song sung in Portuguese” that unites the genre with My Bloody Valentine, where a sunny pop song, the kind that would be the theme of an early/mid-90s teen soap opera (which never existed), transforms into an uncontrolled orchestra, as aggressive as it is psychedelic.
The solos and main melodies are epic, youthful, and captivating, as are the vocal arrangements, bringing to the surface summer amidst all the hate, as do the lyrics, which speak of finding hope in love after the end of a past relationship. Billy Corgan is very meticulous!
“Alem” is released today, accompanied by a video that combines irony with Californian tones and a duality of feelings.

Summer of Hate (SºH, SOH) is a shoegazing band from Porto, created by João Martins (Musical Direction, Composer, Guitar, Backing Vocals) with Laura Calado (Composer, Vocals, Lyrics), Pedro Lopes (Drums) and Fábio Pereira (Bass) and two more guitarists, Xavier Valente and Ricardo Fonseca (Ramos Chiller).
Their sound is rooted in shoegaze and psychedelic music with influences from 60s rock and pop, whether in its 80s revival (Echo & the Bunnymen, The Church, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen3), post-punk, noise rock, global music and Middle Eastern classical and folk music.
Since its inception, the band has played extensively from north to south of the country, from venues such as Maus Hábitos, Sabotage and ZdB, to festivals like Basqueiral, Black Bass-Évora, Meda+, Reverence Valada, sharing stages with national and international artists such as The Damned, Fat White Family, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Acid Tongue, The Japanese Girl, Ana Deus, 10,000 Russos, Pale Blue Olhos, Máquina, Hetta, Conferência Inferno, Solar Corona, etc. Their songs have been played on national radio stations such as SBSR and Antena3, as well as on some radio stations in the United Kingdom.
In 2019, using a “big band” format, they released a live album of semi-improvised music recorded at Ferro Bar, which served as a demo for their debut album, Love is Dead! Long Live Love! From 2022, recorded by Marco Lima (Sulfur Giant, The Weatherman) at Hertzcontrol Studios and released with the support of GDA.
Also with the support of GDA comes the second album from the band Blood & Honey, divided into two parts: the Blood side was recorded at Haus and mixed by Thomas Attar (AlQasar) and the Honey side was recorded and mixed by Rafael Silva (Fugly, Miami Flu) at Estúdios Cisma (CCStop) with mastering by Steve Kitch. It will be released on January 30, 2026, on the American label Tee Pee Records.
