For the third time, Portugal reaches the final of the European Under-21 Championship and for the third time, it has to settle for second place. The German Nmecha was the scorer of the only goal in the final.
Germany beat Portugal 1-0 in the 49th minute, in a goalless first half, Portugal even had some chances at first, but then the Germans were dominating the game and having more and more flagrant opportunities.
A ball to the post and quality saves by Diogo Costa, postponed the German team’s goal, with Fábio Vieira’s shot in the 39th minute and Vitinha wasting Dahmen’s face the best opportunities for Portugal in added time.
The second half starts with Nmecha’s goal that goes around Diogo Costa and scores. Portugal even reacted, but without being able to overcome the German defence and achieve it, the Germans had more opportunities that only the great quality of Diogo Costa was keeping the hope of Portugal reaching a draw, but that never did.
