Alentejo elected by The Guardian as one of the rural spots to know
The British reference newspaper highlighted the Alentejo region among the six rural European destinations to visit in 2019.
“From March, the Alentejo, located in the south of Portugal, becomes an idyllic and colourful picture: yellowish vegetation with wild red poppies, white daisies and lilac lilies that characterize and dazzle the landscape of this region so characteristic ” Praises The Guardian.
The publication also highlights the good weather, the pleasant temperatures, the stillness and the low affluence to the region, that still manages to escape to the curious crowds – emphasizing spring as the ideal moment to explore the beautiful Alentejo.
“There are countless rails that you can explore, varying the distance and the degree of difficulty, along with the Alqueva and the Guadiana River. Rural trails that run through historic cities, or monuments from the Neolithic era to the medieval era, as is the case of the city of Évora recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.”
To conclude The Guardian, he refers without surprise to the typical, delicious and inexpensive gastronomy of the region.
Among the other rural areas to visit highlighted by the newspaper, the invitation is made to explore the countryside of the Netherlands, Romania, the Pyrenees, Sardinia and France.
