After the distinction at the European level, the region now receives worldwide recognition.

The Algarve was distinguished, for the second consecutive year, as the “Best Beach Destination in the World”.
This award was announced yesterday, at the 2021 edition of the World Travel Awards Grand Final, an initiative that, every year, highlights the best examples in the tourism and travel industry, in various categories.

Bringing together the preference of the main leaders of the tourism and travel industry from around the world, who voted to reward the best tourism offer globally, the Algarve was the winner of a list of 20 nominees, competing, side by side, with other destinations world-renowned beach resorts such as Cancun (Mexico), Jamaica, Maldives, Thailand or Zanzibar, among others.

This achievement comes a few months after the Algarve received the same distinction at the European level. João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve, congratulates himself for this award, which confirms the region as a destination whose role and relevance at a global level are today unquestionable. “At a preponderant time like this, when the recovery of the tourism sector is being prepared, it is an immense pride and also an added responsibility. A distinction that is due not only to the undeniable natural attributes but also to the fruit of the work of women and men who every day contribute to the quality of Tourism in the Algarve”, he says.

As one of the effects of the pandemic, people today tend to be more demanding when travelling, opting for destinations that provide them with greater security, confidence and a differentiated and quality offer. “As a prestigious seal recognized worldwide, this award reinforces the added value of the Algarve, as a destination capable of guaranteeing a response that meets the standards of demand defined by today’s tourists”, explains João Fernandes.
