This decision was taken jointly with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and IMSA, organizer of the endurance races in the USA.
With the postponement of the Sebring race, initially scheduled for March 18, Portugal will host the opening event of the World Cup, in which the Portuguese Filipe Albuquerque (current champion of the LMP2 class) and António Félix da Costa will participate, with a new race eight o’clock on April 4th.
This is the first time that the Portuguese circuit has hosted a World Endurance event, after having hosted races in the European Le Mans Series.
In 2020, it was the stage, for the first time, of a race of the Formula 1 World Championship, due to the revision of the calendar imposed by the pandemic of covid-19.
