The E³UDRES² alliance, a European consortium that the Polytechnic of Setúbal (IPS) has been a member of since 2020, has just created its Scientific Council, an organ that will play a central role in guiding and supervising the joint research strategy.
Chaired by Liviu Marsavina of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara in Romania, the Scientific Council of E³UDRES² comprises one representative from each of the nine partner institutions. In the case of IPS, this task falls to Professor Luís Coelho, an experienced researcher who in the past led, on behalf of this institution of Higher Education, the European project TESSe2b (Horizon 2020 program)which the European Commission has put on the list of those who have contributed most to the goal of a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.
In this second phase of the alliance, which will last until 2027, the creation of a Scientific Council is considered “an important advance in promoting excellence and innovation in European Higher Education”, providing the research initiatives of E³UDRES² “strict and specialized supervision”.
Among several important responsibilities and assignments, it is up to the Scientific Council of E³UDRES² to make recommendations and supervise research activities, including the implementation of thematic research networks, ensuring compliance with the overall project objectives and policies of the European Union.
The Scientific Council is also responsible for defining the Centres of Excellence (Coe) of E³UDRES², establishing criteria, characteristics and potential benefits, and it is also responsible for identifying and selecting relevant future CoE and taking these proposals to the Executive Board.
Another important responsibility is to supervise the creation and implementation of joint PhD Programs within the alliance, which implies validating concepts, structures, methodologies, financing models and conditions for the candidates and structure.
