Alice dos Reis wins Novo Banco Revelação 2019 photography award

The artist Alice dos Reis is the winner of the latest edition of the photography award New Bank Revelation, announced today the organization, in charge of the banking institution that gives her name and the Serralves Foundation.

The jury, composed by curators Pedro de Lhano and Manuela Moscoso, photography teacher Susana Lourenço Marques and Filipa Loureiro and Ricardo Nicolau, curator and assistant director of Serralves, respectively, also chose as finalists Diogo da Cruz and Luís Ramos.

“During November, on a date to be announced, a collective exhibition will be inaugurated at the Serralves Museum, presenting the works of the three artists, and for which they will receive a production grant for the realization of the project for which they were selected. the occasion will be launched a monographic publication of the work of the winning artist, Alice dos Reis, “said the statement released today.

Alice dos Reis was chosen from 56 nominations, with a proposal that “questions the traditional and extremely hierarchical relationship between man and animals, intending to reflect, through a film and a video, ‘the process of capturing images as a non-exclusively human exercise. ”

Born in Lisbon in 1996, Alice dos Reis holds a degree in Art and Multimedia from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

According to the biography provided by the organization, the Portuguese artist has exhibited at the Seventh Gallery in Melbourne, Australia, at the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, and the Le Murate space in Florence (Italy).

The Novo Banco Revelação Award aims to “encourage the production and artistic creation of young Portuguese talents, up to 30 years old, based on the logic of dissemination, release, and support to all artists who use photography”.
