Alto do Pina wins Popular Lisbon Marches

The district of Alto da Pina was the winner of this year’s edition of the Popular March of Lisbon, announced today the Company for Equipment Management and Cultural Animation (EGEAC), responsible for organizing the initiative.

Second place was awarded to last year’s winner Alfama, and the third to Penha de França.

With hundreds of participants, the 87th competition of the marches included 20 groups: Alfama (winner in 2018), S. Vicente, Carnide, Bica, Bela Flor-Campolide, Ajuda, Baixa, Madragoa, Penha de França, Graça, Beato, Marvila, Bairro da Boavista, Olivais, Mouraria, Parque das Nações, Castelo, Alto do Pina, Alcântara and Bairro Alto.

In extra competition, the “A Voz do Operário”, Mercados, Santa Casa and, as a guest, the Popular March of Ribeira de Frades (Coimbra) marched through Avenida da Liberdade.

The eve of Saint Anthony’s Day (municipal holiday in the capital) was also marked, as is tradition, by the Marriages of St. Anthony, with 16 couples who joined the marches at night, and with several villages in the city.
