Álvaro Siza Vieira Designs New Edition of CEPA — A Tribute to Wine and the Art of Serving

Attended by over 120 guests, the Serralves Museum hosted the official launch of CEPA Siza Vieira, a design piece by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, which reinterprets the wine ritual with the elegance and rigour that characterise his work.

The event brought together prominent figures from the worlds of art, architecture, and wine in a gathering that celebrated the excellence of Portuguese design and the deep cultural connection with wine.

Created in the wake of the first CEPA — designed by architects Pedro Geraldes and Nuno Travasso — this new edition is a tribute to the authenticity and elevation of the gesture of serving wine, in a piece that transforms the wine ritual into an act of art.

Made from solid rosewood of selected origins and handcrafted by artisans from the North of Portugal, CEPA Siza Vieira combines formal clarity and material purity, reinforcing the link between design, territory, and wine tradition.

“I opted for a contrast between the roundness of the bottle and a rectilinear, orthogonal object. This piece is the same as the original—only the shape is different.”— Álvaro Siza Vieira

“With this new edition, CEPA Wine transforms the wine ritual into a more sensorial and meaningful experience, through signature objects that combine art and functionality. It is an honour to launch this creation by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and share it with all who recognise the enormous value of Portuguese wine.”— Pedro Geraldes, architect and founder of CEPA Wine

“The balance between functionality and aesthetics comes from the technical use of wood. The assembly. The way the pieces fit together.”— Álvaro Siza Vieira

The launch was attended by several leading figures from the worlds of design and winemaking, in a celebratory atmosphere that highlighted the rigour of form, respect for time, and the celebration of place—principles that unite architecture and wine in a single aesthetic language.

About CEPA

More than a design accessory, CEPA is a piece that adds value to the ritual of serving wine, connecting the bottle and cork through natural materials—wood and cork—crafted by Portuguese artisans. Since its creation, CEPA has gained notable recognition in national gastronomy, including Michelin-starred restaurants, and is now recognised as an icon of Portuguese wine-inspired design.
