Amadora BD returns in face-to-face mode

After the 2020 edition fully online, Amadora BD returns to its original format.

Exhibitions, launches, autograph sessions, presentations and lectures are part of this year’s program, which will also feature some initiatives in a hybrid format.

The Amadora Comics Awards (PBDA) are also present in this year’s edition and for the first time distinguish, for the first time, with a pecuniary prize of €5,000 the Best Portuguese Comic Book. The national event dedicated to Comic Strip is back, in person, to the Portuguese city of Comic Strip. From October 21st to November 1st, 2021, Amadora will once again receive another edition of Amadora BD.

Adjusting its schedule to the demands and restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Amadora BD 2021 will occupy three distinct zones in the city of Amadora: the Ski Skate Amadora Park, with the central core; and parallel centers at Bedeteca da Amadora and at Galeria Municipal Artur Bual. Exhibitions, launches and workshops are some of the activities available related to the theme of Comics. In order to maintain the usual activities – namely lectures with authors, national and international – Amadora BD will complete the in-person program with some hybrid initiatives.

The event will culminate with the usual awards ceremony for the Amadora Comics Awards (PBDA) which, this year, for the first time, award a pecuniary prize worth €5,000 to the Best Comic Book by a Portuguese author.

The Amadora Comics Awards (PBDA) are an initiative of the Municipality of Amadora, within the scope of Amadora BD, which, since 1989, has distinguished Portuguese and international comic strip authors.

In 2021, Amadora BD intends to strengthen its support for authors and comics. Therefore, he introduced some changes in this year’s edition of the PBDA, which aim not only to enhance the book, but also to return the leading role to comics. With the awarding, for the first time, of a pecuniary prize for the Best Comic Book by a Portuguese Author, Amadora BD wants to reaffirm its commitment and mission to invest in authors and comics. For over 30 years, the Festival has supported the production of works of this literary genre, in a national context and with an international impact.

Entries for the Amadora 2021 Comics Awards are open and all editions of comics published in Portugal between June 2020 and July 2021 can participate in the contest. a minimum of 30 pages and/or publications, which are not commercially distributed, have at least 12 pages.
