‘Amadora em Festa’ brings together art, music, and sports

Municipality of Amadora transforms into a cultural center to celebrate 45 Years

Until September 15, the municipality of Amadora celebrates its 45th anniversary with a program of activities for all ages. ‘Amadora em Festa’ has already started and invites everyone to celebrate the dynamism and vitality of the first city built after April 25.

Music, dance, literature, sports, and gastronomy fill the streets of Amadora these days, promoting the connection of the public to performing arts and the traditional customs of our country, recalling the memories of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.

Between September 14 and 15, the Espaço Fernando Relvas in the Recreios da Amadora will host the 10th Folklore Festival of the Folkloric Group Alegria do Minho, a free entry show that celebrates the traditions of the northernmost region of Portugal, as well as the 38th Festival of Philharmonic Bands.

Carlão, one of the biggest names in contemporary urban music, will take the City Stage on the night of September 14 for a unique performance, following the performance of the band Cara de Espelho – which brings together members of renowned Portuguese bands – Deolinda, A Naifa, Ornatos Violeta, and Humanos.

Sports enthusiasts are invited to enjoy a sporty, educational, and fun morning on September 14, at the ‘ASA Classic Race’, and tennis fans will be able to take advantage of the ‘Amadora City Tennis Tournament’, which will take place on September 14 and 15 at the Amadora Tennis Club.

The last weekend of celebrations also features the ‘Book Festival’, which will take place between September 13 and 15 at the Municipal Library Fernando Piteira Santos. Ana Markl, Mariana Alvim, Rafael Gallo, M.G. Ferrey, and Bruno Leão, among many other authors, are some of the guests who will be present at the 9th edition of the event. Central Park also brings together national and international chefs at the gastronomic event ‘Festival É UM ENCONTRO’.

Amadora, a city of memories

Starting September 12, the Espaço Delfim Guimarães will host the temporary exhibition ‘Amílcar Cabral – An Exhibition’, which celebrates the legacy of one of the most significant political figures on the international scene, who encouraged popular mobilization against Portuguese colonialism. On the same day, Casa Roque Gameiro will host ‘All the Colors. Guida Ottolini (1915-1992). An Illustrator of the “Tribe of Brushes”,’ an exhibition that highlights the career and various phases and styles of the illustrator from the third generation of the Roque Gameiro family.

In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution, the Quorum Dance Company brings to life the highest exponents of freedom, with the show ‘VOICE’ on September 13 at the City Stage, on the same day Rodrigo Leão presents ‘The Portuguese’.

The Army Light Orchestra (September 11, 6:00 PM, Recreios da Amadora) and the Sinfonietta Orchestra of Lisbon with the Ricercare Choir (September 15, 7:00 PM, City Stage) will also be the protagonists of unique moments as a tribute to classical music.
