Amazon MGM Studios announces that it will distribute, globally, the documentary about Céline Dion, I Am: Céline Dion. Directed by Oscar nominee Irene Taylor, the documentary is a portrait of a decisive time in the life and career of one of the most recognized, respected and successful artists in the history of pop music, Céline Dion.

The documentary will premiere on Prime Video as part of the Prime subscription. Amazon Prime subscribers in Portugal can enjoy offers, free shipping and entertainment, all in the same subscription for just €4.99 per month or €49.90 per year.

This personal exploration takes viewers on a journey through Céline’s past and present, revealing her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome (PRS) and the efforts she has made to continue singing for her beloved and loyal fans. From discovering her couture wardrobe and personal effects while on tour to visiting her recording studio, this is an emotional, energetic and poetic love letter to music. I Am: Céline Dion captures more than a year of recordings, as the legendary singer navigates her path to living an open and authentic life with her illness.

The documentary, which Sony Music Vision produced in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Vermilion Films, will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The premiere on Prime Video will be announced soon.

“These last few years have been a challenge for me, a journey from discovering my illness to knowing how to live with it and manage it, but not letting it define me,” says Céline Dion. “As I continued towards my goal of resuming my artistic career, I realized how much I missed seeing my fans. During this absence, I decided that I wanted to document this part of my life to try and raise awareness about this disease little known and to help others who also suffer from this diagnosis”, added the singer.

“Céline Dion is a global superstar with a career defined not only by her extraordinary work ethic and passion but also by her dedication to her fans,” says Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon MGM Studios. “This documentary is a candid and intimate portrait of a pivotal time in his life and career, revealing his day-to-day life as he tries to overcome an unthinkable diagnosis. We are honoured to have been entrusted with his story and look forward to sharing it with Prime Video audiences worldwide.”

Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Irene Taylor’s latest work, Trees and Other Entanglements, premiered last year on HBO and explores humanity’s obsession with the world of trees. Taylor also recently won the Columbia-DuPont Prize for his tragic investigation into one of America’s most trusted institutions, The Dark Side of the Boy Scouts.

Premiered in 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival and later nominated in the Special Merit in Documentary Creation category at the 2020 Primetime Emmys, Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements tells Taylor’s personal story of her deaf son and father and of Ludwig Van Beethoven became deaf while composing his famous sonata. Other works include Hear and Now, which won the Audience Award at Sundance in 2007; Beware the Slenderman, which received Emmy nominations and two Critic’s Choice Awards; The Final Inch, which received Oscar nominations and multiple Emmys; Saving Pelican Number 895; One Last Hug: Three Days at Grief Camp; Open Your Eyes; and Between Sound and Silence.

Since entering the music world at the age of 13, Dion has sold more than 250 million records during her 40-year career. After winning five Grammys, two Oscars, the Icon Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards and recognition at the 2004 World Music Awards as the best-selling female artist in history, Dion continues to break records. With number-one hits in blockbuster films including “Ashes” (Deadpool 2), “My Heart Will Go On” (Titanic) and “Beauty and the Beast”, it is a force in the industry and has become a new benchmark of excellence.

In 2021, Dion faced the difficult decision of cancelling her long-awaited Las Vegas residency due to health concerns. Then, in December 2022, the singer dared to reveal her ongoing struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome, which ended up leading to the cancellation of her Courage World Tour. Despite these obstacles, Dion continued to persevere and dedicate herself to her art, while focusing her attention on recovery. In 2023, she returned to showcase her talent in the romantic comedy Love Again and released five new songs to accompany the film’s soundtrack.

The documentary was produced by Irene Taylor, Stacy Lorts and Julie Begey Seureau for Vermilion Films, and Tom Mackay for Sony Music Vision. Dave Platel and Denis Savage are executive producers for Les Productions Feeling, along with Shane Carter of Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Krista Wegener of Sony Music Vision. The sale was negotiated by Sony Music Vision.
