“Gato que brincas na rua”, the first single from the new work Um Gato É Um Gato, a book-album to discover on November 22.
Here is a book of poems, fully illustrated by Amélia and designed by Cristiana Serejo and Olinda Martins, accompanied by an album of songs where adults and children, individually or in chorus, share the same joy of giving voice to many poets who wrote about felines.
For this “opening of doors” to Amélia Muge’s new album, Um gato é um gato — which has the particularity of having music integrated into a book of poems — we brought along the company of Fernando Pessoa and his poem: «Gato que brincas na rua.»
“From the words that moved us, we set off to sing them.
Then, a string quartet joined, with their glissandos, digital soundscapes, and the children’s choir from the parish of Beiriz, Póvoa de Varzim.
Afterwards, colourful images full of doodles happened.
From what the poet transmitted to us, in this world of open encounters, the feeling remains that the movement of the cat, ‘that plays in the street as if it were in bed’ is already, in some way, within us.
Now listen. Is it not?”
Amélia Muge is a singer, instrumentalist, composer songwriter, illustrator, a woman of many trades who never ceases to surprise.
Amélia Muge’s music also stands out for the beauty of the lyrics of her songs, setting music to both her poems and those of various Portuguese-speaking poets, among whom Fernando Pessoa stands out, not forgetting traditional origin poems.
This time, poems from various Portuguese-speaking poets are joined with music, and also with illustration, in a beautiful disk-book object, which will also live on in a travelling exhibition of the magical illustrations of this project.
Starting on November 22, the album will be available on platforms, and there will be a book launch at FNAC Chiado at 6:30 PM.
