Ana Rocha de Sousa wins two awards at the Venice Film Festival

‘Listen’ was awarded the ‘Leão do Futuro – Luigi De Laurentiis’ prize, in the amount of 100 thousand dollars, and Ana Rocha de Sousa also received the special award from the section jury competitive ‘Horizons’.

[dropcap]‘L[/dropcap]isten‘ is the first feature film by actress and director Ana Rocha de Sousa and the narrative is inspired by real facts. It is a family drama of a Portuguese family emigrated to the United Kingdom, to whom social services remove her three minor children, on suspicion of mistreatment.

Listen‘ has a Portuguese-British co-production, it was shot in the outskirts of London with Portuguese and English cast, headed by Lúcia Moniz, Ruben Garcia and Sophia Myles. It will arrive in Portuguese cinemas in 2021.

On Friday, the film by the Portuguese director was distinguished with the Bisato d’Oro prize for best performance and the “Sorriso Diverso Venezia” award, for “approaching social issues”, both parallel awards of the festival.

Ana Rocha de Sousa, 41, entered the cinema through the door of representation, especially in television fiction, such as ‘Risks‘, ‘The Streak of Fears‘, ‘Strawberries with Sugar’ and ‘Jura’, and went to the other side of the camera making short films. He is currently preparing a new feature film.

Listen‘ had been selected for the competitive ‘Horizontes‘ section of the festival, which also included Laura Carreira’s short film ‘The Shift’.

In this section, the prize for best short film was for ‘Entre tú y milagros‘, by Mariana Saffon.

The 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival, which ends today, was presented as one of the first international events taking place along the traditional lines in times of the covid-19 pandemic, after months of paralysis in cinematographic activity, which took many festivals to decide whether to postpone, cancel or display online.
