Ana Sofia Varela takes fado back to Jardins da Amália

A magnificent summer day took place on the 4th of July, in the garden of Amália Rodrigues house, at Rua de São Bento, at a time when the centenary anniversary of his birth was celebrated.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]na Sofia Varela was the fado singer responsible for a musical trip that reminded us of what it’s like to hear Amália, the Queen of Fado, accompanied by Pedro Amendoeira on the Portuguese guitar and João Filipe on the fado viola.

With themes such as “Hei-de ir a Viana“, “Ai Maria“, “Ai Mouraria“, “Dar de beber à dor“,” Alfama“, “Maria Lisboa” and “Cheira bem cheira a Lisboa”, among others, were some of the themes with which fado singer Ana Sofia sang and enchanted an audience of listeners.

As guests the fado singer introduced her daughter Carolina Varela, with “Fado da Mouraria” and “Senhora da Saúde” and also Tomaz Figueiredo, with “Sou do Fado” and “Acordem as Guitarras“.

Despite carefully following the DGS guidelines regarding social distance, Jardim de Amália was very well composed for this first post-confinement action.

Three more concerts will take place at Casa de Amália, the first being on the 5th of August, at 17.30 hours.
