Anabela Coelho receives the Sebastião da Gama 2020 National Poetry Award

The Sebastião da Gama 2020 National Poetry Award was presented to Anabela Coelho, in a ceremony held on July 24, at the Joana Luísa e Sebastião da Gama Memory House, in Vila Nogueira de Azeitão.

Anabela Coelho, from Coimbra, won the 16th edition of the competition, organized by the Sebastião da Gama Cultural Association and the Parish Council of Azeitão, with the work “Distância de Mim para Mim”, signed under the pseudonym of Luísa Vasconcelos

The author, who works as a lawyer, won the Irene Lisboa Literary Prize in 2018 with the short story “O Espanta-Pardais e a Boneca de Trapos”, after receiving an honorable mention in the previous edition of the same event.

The winner of the Sebastião da Gama 2020 National Poetry Award received 1500 euros and 50 copies of the edition of the text to be published, “Distância de Mim para Mim”, whose cover illustration is a replica of a painting by the painter António Galrinho.

The 16th edition of the event, held every two years, with the objective of promoting literary creativity and the dissemination of the work of the poet and pedagogue from Azeiton, had 23 literary works from various parts of the country in the competition.
