André Rieu starts today concert marathon in Lisbon

Dutch violinist André Rieu starts today a series of nine concerts at the Altice Arena in Lisbon, seven of them this month, all sold out, and two in November, which guarantees “a lot of humor” as well as music.

Twenty years after his first performance in Lisbon, André Rieu returns accompanied by an orchestra of “about 60 musicians, of 13 nationalities, ten elements of a choir and six soloists”, said the musician in February in a press conference in Lisbon, in which he announced that after seven sold out in March. I would return in November for more concerts.

When asked about the reason for having managed to exhaust seven concerts in Lisbon, the musician replied that “people miss being together”. “They come from all over the world. [At my concerts] they sit next to someone they do not know and they leave friends there,” he said.

The violinist performs at Altice Arena today, on the 14th, 15th, 16th, 29th, 30th, and 31st of this month and the 20th and 21st of November. In each of the sold out concerts will be 12 thousand spectators.

In the spectacles, the public can count, besides the music, with “very humor”. “There are a lot of jokes,” he shared, considering “there is not enough humor in the world, in life,” and that “so many problems with humor can be solved.”

André Rieu also said that those who go to their concerts “know that they will have a night that they will never forget and that they can open their hearts”.

“We travel around the world [me and my orchestra] because we open our hearts and hope people open their hearts,” he said, noting that “music unites people.”

In addition to playing and directing the show, the violinist is still responsible for the design of the wardrobe.

André Rieu, a 69-year-old violinist, conductor and founder of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, has sold 40 million CDs and DVDs throughout his career, and his live concerts attract more than 600,000 people a year, selling more than Bruno Mars, AC/DC or Rihanna. “
