Angélica André, 27 years old and representing the Fluvial Portuense Club, finished the 10-kilometer race in fifth place and guaranteed her debut in the Olympic Games.
The Portuguese delegation is represented in 15 sports, with a current contingent of 73 national athletes, eight of which in swimming.
Portugal was represented in open water competitions in the last three editions of the Games. Arsenyi Lavrentyev was present in Beijing2008 and London2012, Vânia Neves, in Rio2016, while Daniela Inácio has the best Portuguese result, with 17th place in Beijing2008.
The Olympic Games, postponed a year due to covid-19, will run from 23 July to 8 August.
