Angola’s President confirms three-day visit to Portugal
The Angolan President will hold a visit to Portugal between November 22 and 24, which includes a session in Parliament and a ceremony in the Jeronimos on the first day, confirmed the source of the Angolan presidency’s civilian house.
On 10 September, Angolan Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto officially announced in Luanda that the President, João Lourenço, would make an official visit to Portugal on November 23 and 24, but today the official source of the Angolan Presidency confirmed that the trip will be for three days.
On November 22, the Assembly of the Republic holds a welcoming meeting with the President of Angola, where João Lourenço will make a speech to the Portuguese deputies.
Before that, João Lourenço will be in the Jeronimos Monastery, where he will put a wreath, said the Angolan Presidency source.
The rest of the program will be released days before the visit.
The invitation to João Lourenço to make a speech in the Portuguese Parliament, during his visit to Portugal, was arranged by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Ferro Rodrigues, with the Government and with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
On September 17, during the official visit of the Prime Minister to Luanda, António Costa said that high-level political visits between the Portuguese and Angolan governments must be less time-spaced from now on, avoiding the accumulation of ” many issues “to be addressed.
The last Portuguese prime minister to visit Angola was Pedro Passos Coelho in 2011. Regarding the Presidents of the Republic of Angola visiting Portugal, the last was José Eduardo dos Santos in 2010.
