The new album and concert presentation on May 4th.
Aníbal Zola is back with the new single “Liberdade Mentirosa”. The theme is the result of a challenge that was launched to the Porto musician: “In 2023 I was asked to include the word “Liberdade” in one of my shows. When this request came up, I was leafing through a newspaper and saw an article that talked about two TVDE workers who shared a car and slept in the trunk of the vehicle, changing between shifts, while one drove the other slept. This story was something that touched me deeply. My choice was made. I took some paper and in a tear, I wrote a poem for traditional fado, in this case, sextilhas. This poem reflects on freedom in a world largely supported by cheap labour. Afterwards, I composed a cumbia to cover this story and I had the pleasure of having Fausto Andreé participate in the percussions, in an unusual recording that took place in Arequipa, Peru.”
The new album, Pop d’ell Fado will be released in physical format on the 4th of May and over the next few months Aníbal Zola will present the public with new singles on the first Friday of each month, revealing his new record in this way until the end of the year. In December Pop d’ell Fado will be available to listen to on all digital platforms, until then the new album can only be purchased in physical format at the artist’s concerts, on Bandcamp or through the website www.anibalzola.com
The 4th of May will also be the day of the presentation concert taking place at Passos Manuel, in Porto. At this concert the following will be on stage: Aníbal Zola, double bass, electric bass and vocals, Miguel Sampaio on drums and keyboards, André Mariano on percussion and Portuguese guitar, Romain Valentino on cavaquinho and guitars and José Ferra on guitars.
Of note is Aníbal Zola’s performance at the Soam as Guitarras Festival on May 24th, in Setúbal, in which the musician invites singer-songwriter Madalena Palmeirim to share the stage.
