Anitta launches her long-awaited Funk Generation
The international superstar will bring Brazilian funk to fans around the world with concerts in special venues.
Funk Generation places Anitta at the forefront of promoting Brazilian funk to the new generation around the world, having achieved the record for the artist’s best debut ever in Brazil and entering the top 3 best releases by a Brazilian artist on Spotify Brasil. The album includes songs such as “Grip“, accompanied by a music video, “Fria” and “Ahi“, in collaboration with Sam Smith.
About the album, Anitta says: “Funk Generation incorporates all the nuances of this 100% Brazilian musical genre that shaped my journey as a person and as an artist. Funk is rooted in the culture of those who live in Brazilian favelas, where I come from, and It has often been unfairly judged as lacking artistic value, even associated with organized crime. It reflects the classism and racism that haunt our society.
My new project is very special because it signifies my intention to create an international funk album, something I’ve always dreamed of. It is gratifying to see that funk is today a source of inspiration and art on the world music scene, a genre with value, awards and admiration.
With a contagious rhythm, whether the sound is heavier or melodic, the songs on my album have many influences, from Funk Carioca to Pop and electronic music. I made a point of collaborating with renowned producers within Brazilian funk. Together, we created something that can be enjoyed, danced and sung.”
The album follows a series of high-profile performances, including the Latin American Music Awards, where she performed the singles “Double Team” and “Sabana“, and a surprise performance at Coachella, when she joined Peso Pluma on stage to perform their hit “BELLAKEO“.
Furthermore, Anitta has just announced the BAILE FUNK EXPERIENCE TOUR, which will provide the international star with a unique funk experience in special and intimate locations in cities around the world, offering fans an authentic taste of Brazil’s iconic funk parties. The tour, which begins on May 18th in Mexico City, includes Anitta’s first North American tour, which will take her to Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago and Toronto, among other cities. Shortly after going on sale, tickets for many of the concerts, including those in Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando and New York, are already sold out.
After the North American stage, Anitta will take BAILE FUNK EXPERIENCE to South America and then to Europe, including Bogotá, Buenos Aires, London, Paris, Ibiza and more. The global superstar has already sold out concerts in Berlin, Amsterdam, London and Paris, a tour that will not pass through Portugal.
Funk Generation follows up with Anitta’s three-track bundle, Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, which was released in 2023 as a precursor to the new album. The three tracks were “Funk Rave”, “Used To Be” and “Casi Casi”, which became fan favourites. After the success of the release, Anitta released “BELLAKEO“, a joint track with Peso Pluma, being Anitta’s most successful song on the Billboard Hot 100 to date.
Meanwhile, the artist released “Joga pra Lua”, in collaboration with producers Pedro Sampaio and DENNIS, being the last single of 2023, ending the year with a bang. Recently, Anitta gave fans a preview of what to expect from FUNK GENERATION, with the single “Double Team” (ft. Brray & Bad Gyal) produced by Botlok and accompanied by a music video directed by Sam Hayes.
The artist will be present in Portugal for a highly anticipated performance at the Festival Sudoeste on August 9th.
