Another band confirmed in Alive and this is “special”
Ornatos Violeta will return to the stage, having been confirmed their presence on the first day of the festival NOS Alive.
Ornatos Violeta, the Portuguese alternative rock band, formed in 1991 in Porto, will return to the stage to celebrate the 20th. “The monster needs friends”, confirms the organization of Nos Alive, considering this a “special” performance. The band goes to the NOS Stage, on July 11, the same day as The Cure.
Edited on November 22, 1999, ‘The Monster Needs Friends’, the second and last album of originals of the Violet Ornatos, surpassed the expectations created by the debut disc, ‘Dog!’.
The band formed by Manel Cruz (voice), Nuno Prata (bass), Peixe (guitar), Kinörm (drums) and Elísio Donas (keyboards) are responsible for truly timeless songs.
This is the case of ‘Captain Romance’ – which features special guest Gordon Gano, of Violent Femmes, one of the greatest references of Ornatos Violeta, to sing in Portuguese -, ‘Chaga’, ‘Dia Mau’ or ‘Ouvi Dizer’ with the special participation of Vítor Espadinha.
Produced by Mario Barreiros, ‘The Monster Needs Friends’, recalls the organization of NOS Alive, it was the usual “difficult second disc” that would eventually prove to be the magnum opus of the band, either commercially, reaching the Platinum brand or , especially for fans and critics, with BLITZ considering it the third Best Portuguese Album published in the ’90s and one of the 25 best national albums edited between 1960 and 2000.
Formed in Oporto in 1991, the Violeta Ornatos have been active for almost a decade, during which they gained cult status thanks to the two albums released and their intense performances in concert.
In 2002 they announced the separation, returning in 2012 to celebrate the 20 years of its formation, with eight special concerts. In 2019 they return, to commemorate another milestone, because, 20 years later, ‘The Monster (still) Needs Friends’. They will do so, not only on the stages of Alive but also at the Marés Vivas festival in Gaia, on July 20 and also in September, at Festival F in Faro.
