Antonio Bastos, musician and award-winning composer, has just released his newest single, “Cabra Manca”, a collaboration with three choirs from the community of Albergaria-a-Velha: the Jobra Choir, the Coro do Programa Idade Maior, and the Coral Group Rainha D. Teresa.
Music, available on all major digital platforms, marks a meeting between tradition and modernity, uniting generations and celebrating the strength of Portuguese culture.
With the direct involvement of local choirs, “Cabra Manca” highlights the richness of choral singing by incorporating the voice as the “universal instrument” that everyone has and can explore. According to Bastos, “Working with choirs has always fascinated me because the voice is the most accessible and powerful resource, able to unite people and create genuine musical experiences. Seeing each participant discover the potential of their voice is transformative.” This synergy of talents has produced a song that celebrates the authenticity and diversity of Albergaria-a-Velha.
The single was conceived as part of the project “Antonio Bastos and the Community in Albergaria-a-Velha”, an initiative that promoted creative laboratories with local groups, where lyrics, songs and movements were explored together. The Portuguese guitar of Paulo Bastos and the contemporary synthesizers of Antonio Bastos intertwine, creating a sound that at the same time honours and reimagines the local musical tradition.
The video clip of “Cabra Manca”, filmed during the show that presented the project, captures the energy and enthusiasm of each participant, reflecting the commitment and commitment of the communities involved – from young people to older. This audiovisual production reaffirms the power of art as a meeting point for different generations and as a means to give voice to regional culture.
They call old age/ That’s a lie
Old age wants to be young/ And then no one takes it away
They call old age/ That’s a lie
Old age wants to be new / And then nobody sees it …
In verses that resonate with humour and provocation, the lyrics of “Cabra Manca” deconstruct stereotypes about age, urging an attitude of youth of spirit and celebration of a full and active life.
