António Zambujo and Salvador Sobral are two of the names of Santarém’s cultural program for the second quarter of the year, joined by activities for families and community and youth involvement.
Presented today at a press conference, the program for the months of April to June, under the project Santarém Cultura, which is being revamped for the municipality by programmer João Aidos, includes, in addition to the concerts of António Zambujo (April 12) and Salvador Sobral (May 4), both at the Teatro Sá da Bandeira (TSB), also Ricardo Ribeiro (May 18), CNEMA, Vitorino with Cordis (June 20), Largo do Seminário, and pianist Joana Gama (April 26 and 27) at the TSB.
In the theatre, the Companhia do Chapitô will bring to the TSB, on May 25, “the award-winning” Hamlet, and the Italian company Ludovica Rambelli will recreate, in the Cathedral of Santarém, on April 13, “Quadros de Caravaggio“, “in a spectacle of extraordinary beauty. ”
In the dance, Aldara Bizarro will present on June 29, in Largo do Seminário, a project that will involve members of the community and local bands, while Constanza Givone, Cláudia Andrade, Carla Galvão and Fernando Mota, will ” children and young people and families, “activities” with all the arts for children and their families “, taking place on World Children’s Day (June 1), at the Convento de S. Francisco.
The program opens on April 3 with a masterclass with João Garcia Miguel, within the scope of the second National Encounter of Interpretation Courses (ENCI), which this week brings together in Santarém around 200 students and teachers from schools throughout the country.
Among the initiatives scheduled for the second quarter of the year are still shows for schools and families by Constanza Givone (10 and 11 May), the inauguration of the exhibition of the 150 years of elevation from Santarém to the city, in Casa do Brasil (15 May), and the extension of the Indie Festival, at Teatro Sá da Bandeira (from the 16th to the 18th of this month), performing on the 21st Symphonic Band of the PSP.
The Vice Mayor of Santarém, who holds the title of Culture, Inês Barroso, stressed the “programming of excellence” that the project started to provide to the county, revealing that it was in “perfect harmony” with what the municipal executive recommended.
“We are getting Santarém to watch what is best done in Portugal and catapult Santarém nationally,” he said, highlighting the ongoing effort to “give greater dignity to the spaces of the city” with the renovation of Teatro Sá da Bandeira and of the Convent of S. Francisco.
In a balance of the first quarter of Santarém Cultura’s programming, João Aidos highlighted the public’s receptivity, with sold-out shows, showing “thirst for more“, and great demand from schools and institutions.
According to the programmer, the first quarter was “the beginning of a cycle of society’s involvement”, with emphasis on education, the creation of public, and the “awakening of affections and meanings” in school communities.
